U.S. claims Al Qaeda number two killed in Pakistan

WASHINGTON - The number two leader of Al Qaeda in Pakistan, Sheikh Atiyah Abd ar-Rahman, claimed to have been killed. This claim was disclosed by a U.S. official said on Saturday (27/08/2011).
According to officials who did not want to be identified, the Sheikh ar-Rahman was killed in Waziristan on August 22. The same day that U.S. drone attack in Pakistan's tribal region.
Citizen Libya is emerging as the number two Al Qaeda after the first leader, Osama bin Laden, also claimed to have been killed by U.S. elite troops who attacked the town of Abbottabad in Pakistan early last May.
U.S. Defence Secretary, Leon Panetta, said last month that killed Osama bin Laden does not mean al Qaeda has been lost.
"It is important for the U.S. to continue to pressure the group to ensure national security," he said.
"I believe if we continue this effort, we will really be able to knock out Al Qaeda as a major threat," he added.
Officials who claim the death of Sheikh Rahman Ar do not tell you how the Al Qaeda leader was killed. But this news comes on the same day that the CIA drone attack reportedly Waziristan.
