WASHINGTON - U.S. President colonial state, Barack Obama has announced plans to withdraw U.S. troops from Afghanistan, amid growing pressure that is directed by a number of parties on Obama to immediately end the war.

In a speech aired on television on Wednesday (06/22/2011), he states that starting from next month the U.S. will begin withdrawing forces.

At the end of this year there are 10,000 troops are withdrawn, and until summer 2012 is estimated about 23,000 troops have been withdrawn, he said.

The U.S. has about 100,000 troops in Afghanistan and more than 1,500 U.S. soldiers have been killed since the start of the war, according to their claims.

"This is the beginning - but not the end - of our efforts to reduce the intensity of this war," Obama said, stressing that the challenges still remain and must be faced in this war-torn country, Reuters reported.

In addition, he explained, although al-Qaeda leader Osama bin Laden had been killed, the group remains dangerous.

Obama also stressed that all parties in this country must abide by the Constitution of Afghanistan if it wants peace is reached.

Obama further announced that the U.S. will host a NATO meeting in May 2012, at which the next phase of military operations in Afghanistan will be established.

This step was taken when the U.S. economy is in a dire situation in recent years.

"Over the last decade, we've spent a trillion dollars to finance the war," said the U.S. president.
