The U.S. Embassy should be moved to Jerusalem

NEW ORLEANS - Officials from the Republican White House, Newt Gingrich, said on Thursday (16/06/2011) that one of the first action should be elected president is to recognize Jerusalem as Israel's capital and move the U.S. embassy to the city.

Speaking at a meeting of party activists in New Orleans, Gingrich condemned the refusal to move the U.S. diplomatic mission to Jerusalem from Tel Aviv. According to him, the act of denial was "an insult" to the loyal U.S. ally.

Former White House spokesman said he would sign an executive order on the first day to make changes.

U.S. law in 1995 set the displacement, but successive presidents who served have ignored the law and to defer to move the embassy.
