Perceptions about Linux and Mac are reported free of virus and malware threats, disputed by Kaspersky Lab. Both are not necessarily safe from attack, although the numbers are not as much as the operating system (OS) other.

According to Kaspersky Lab's research until September 2011 yesterday, there are more than 1,000 malware attacks that over to Mac OS and the 3351 attack on a Unix-based.

For attacks on Unix-based, the largest number of Linux with numbers up to 2825. The rest, 137 OSX, Solaris 3, SunOS 122, 213 Unix and FreeBSD 51.

"It's still small in number, but the attack is real," said Gun Suk Ling, Kaspersky Lab's Director of Corporate Sales for Asia Pacific, at the Hotel Le Meridien, Jakarta, Wednesday (23/11/2011).

He also argued that the attacks experienced Mac and Linux are not very influential. But the impact of the attack, could impact on other OS platforms.

"One example is the spread of the virus multiplatform impact. Mac and Linux effective way to spread the virus to other OS during data transfer, for example. Viruses and malware that settles on both OS's can be carried on," he explained.
