The CIA had secret prisons in Somalia

WASHINGTON - U.S. intelligence agencies, the CIA was using secret facilities in Somalia for the purpose of preventing terrorism and secret prisons in Somalia's capital, The Nation magazine reported on Tuesday (07/12/2011).

The report said that the CIA has a thick-walled prison complex in the Indian Ocean coast.

According to the magazine, where it also has its own airport and guarded by soldiers of Somalia, but its access is under the control of America.

The Nation said the effort is part of U.S. efforts to deal with Al Shabaab Mujahideen harakah and concerned groups who claimed the U.S. linked to numerous terror plots against the United States.

The report also said the CIA used secret prisons in the underground headquarters of the National Security Agency (NSA) Somalia, where a number of arrests of suspected members of al Shabaab, or have a relationship with this group.

Some detainees have been arrested in Kenya and several other locations. The Nation also reported that the prison was officially run by the NSA Somalia, but U.S. intelligence personnel who pay them and interrogate the prisoners.
